The Full Mobile Web Experience Is Up For Pre-Order Now!

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

No, no, it’s not the iPad, since it doesn’t even offer Flash.  And it doesn’t do multitasking.  It’s the Nokia N900.  Long after it went on sale in other parts of the world, we are now deemed worthy to own one.  Let’s hope the unit you get are not surplus unsold stocks from other parts of the world where it went on sale previously!

Pre-order an N900 now and get a DC11 Nokia Extra Power free.  That was a mouthful, so let me break it down for you – the DC11 is simply a battery pack of 1500mAh capacity, with two connectors – 2mm and microUSB to basically charge any new-ish Nokia phone (and any other phones which uses these standards).  And you get to charge two devices at once, how cool is that?

Be fast in making up your mind though – the pre-order special offer is only for the first 300 units.  Collection is on the 28th and 29th of March, at any one of the 4 collection points in the Klang Valley.  Outside the Klang Valley?  Sorry, your business is not wanted.

Ooops, nearly forgot the price – RM 2,280.  Not cheap, but not terribly expensive either.  Just remember what you’re buying, that’s all I can say.

And here’s the message one gets upon successful submission of the pre-order.  Can anyone spot the epic English FAIL in the message?  :P

Thanks to Hawke for alerting me to this in the shoutbox.

AMOLED Isn’t That Great…Yet…

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

The buzz in screen technology nowadays is about the brightness, vividness and crispness of AMOLED, and lately, Samsung’s Super AMOLED (as found on its Wave S8500 bada smartphone) screens.  But apparently OLED technology doesn’t best the old LCD technology in all areas – it is still new, and is still maturing, and LCD is still better than OLED screens in some respects.

I don’t pretend to understand all the technobabble in this article which attempts to explain the areas where OLED technology still lags behind LCD, by comparing the Google Nexus One’s screen to the iPhone’s, so I’ll leave it to you to read it for yourself.  But I certainly think it is the way of the future, and Apple is even reportedly considering using the OLED technology in its next generation iPhone – at the moment, dubbed the “iPhone 4G”.

Glowing Reviews For The Dell Alienware M11x

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

So, that didn’t take long.  Reviews of the new Alienware M11x gaming netbook have started appearing on the web, and generally, the opinion is that there is much to love about this netbook.  I’m guessing that this is because it is the first netbook to truly support portable gaming, or gaming on the go, without having to lug a 20 pound beast with you.  Although it’s a little on the heavy side, it makes up for it in overall performance, according to the reviews.  And the ability to switch between the discrete graphics card and the integrated graphics card is a nice touch indeed, although if you run it on the dedicated graphics card, don’t expect the battery to last long, although it still manages a respectable 4 hours or thereabouts watching a video.

Click here to read the reviews, or rather links to the various reviews that have begun popping up on the interwebs.

U Mobile Prepaid Broadband Plans

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

I don’t know how this could have slipped me by, but U Mobile is now offering prepaid broadband plans, which makes them the fourth provider in the country to do so, which basically means that all cellular providers in Malaysia now offer prepaid wireless broadband over 3G.  They have a variety of prepaid plans to choose from, check out the screenshot below from their website.

What do you think?  Are these plans better than the ones offered by their competitors?
