Dell’s 7 Days Of Deals

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Who else but my good friend, artic_xp, who spots these kinds of offers?  It’s not surprising really, since artic checks the Dell website at least 8 times daily for just these types of good deals.  This time, it runs from 19th February to 25th February.  There are coupon codes for additional discounts, for selected items.  Click here for details.

That Zino and Zino HD looks mighty attractive with RM 100 off, making them RM 799 and RM 1,099 respectively.  Yes, the cheapest model only comes with the super-duper lame Intel N230 processor, but for RM 799 for a branded desktop, albeit without monitor and operating system is hard to resist if you’re looking for a cheap storage or always-on internet desktop!  Or, get the more powerful Zino HD at only RM 1,099, discounted.

Thanks, artic!

Cheapest Branded Intel Atom Desktop?

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

I believe that some readers here have rather good things to say about the Compaq CQ2120 desktop PC, equipped with an Intel Atom 330 dual core processor.  Well, Tesco is now selling it (again) at RM 599, certainly cheaper than the Dell Inspiron Zino, but does not look as attractive due to its bulky design.  But hey, for RM 300 less, I don’t think you’re going to complain, right?

So, if you’re interested in getting one, head on down to your local Tesco today.  Note that the CQ2120 does not come with nVidia ION graphics, unlike on the Acer Aspire Revo, so if you need much better graphics processing capabilities, avoid this one!

Dell Inspiron Zino SFF

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

dell-logoWhere SFF = small form factor, ie. a computer in a very small sized casing.  The Zino is Dell’s answer to Acer’s Revo.  I believe volume wise, it could be even smaller than the Revo.  At a price of only RM 899 sans monitor, I think this is a good device for someone new to PCs or perhaps a young child.  It’s not a power packed device by any stretch of the imagination, with only the Intel Atom 230 processor within.  In fact, it will have difficulty playing back certain YouTube High Quality (HQ) videos, and it certainly will not be able to play back 720 pixel high definition video content without its CPU being put under a 100% load all the time.  So, what is it good for, I hear you ask?  Well, web browsing, video and music playback, running office productivity applications such as Microsoft Office and some simple photo editing, perhaps.

Sadly, you cannot customise the Zino heavily on Dell’s website – you can’t even add additional RAM to it!  It’s got no Bluetooth, no WiFi but at least it comes with a wired keyboard and laser mouse, as well as a DVD writer.  And at RM 899 you only get Ubuntu Linux 9.04 as the operating system.  Well, cheap does have its price!  So, head on down here if you’re still interested to get one!  Now if only it came with the newer dual core N330 instead of the lamer 230 processor I might have been rather more interested…

And The Acer AspireRevo Drops In Price…Again

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

acer-logoThe Acer AspireRevo, which we have covered quite a number of times in this blog in the past, has dropped in price, again.  I guess it must not be selling too well.  The last time we covered it here, its price dropped by RM 100 to RM 1,299.  It is now selling for RM 1,199, a drop of another RM 100.  The more expensive model with a better processor and more RAM is now selling for RM 1,399.  Interestingly, the more expensive model has an upgraded processor – the Intel Atom dual core N330 operating at 1.6GHz, while the cheaper model still has the same specifications as before.

Both models come with Windows Vista Home Premium, and they qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 7, according to Acer’s Windows 7 upgrade page here.  So, that’s the good news I think, and for RM 1,199, I don’t think you can get a better offer anywhere, but remember that this price still doesn’t get you a monitor, but that should only add another RM 400-500 or so to the price anyway, for a 19 inch monitor.

So, tempted yet?  Remember, both models come with the nVidia ION chipset, which is capable of playing back high definition (HD) movies.

Dell RM100 Instant Discount Coupon Code

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

dell-logoHere’s a RM100 discount coupon code, valid until 22nd October 2009, or so Dell tells me.  I’m not sure whether this is a one time code, or whether it can be used multiple times by multiple people.  One thing’s for sure though – it says that the code is not combinable with any other discount codes, for example, the Dell midday rush coupon codes which I posted below.  You can try though, and may end up getting a discount of RM 600 if your luck is good, so if you do, come back and tell us about it.

So, if you’re in the market for a Dell thin-and-light, the Inspiron 11z, buy it now for RM 1,649 (for the lower end model anyway).  What deal could better this one?  None!  So, grab it while it lasts!  And no need to fight with others in a queue to enjoy the discount; how much better can life get?

The discount code is DVDWW$FB8TN30V.
