Motorola Milestone Lands In Hong Kong, Malaysia Soon

The Motorola Milestone, otherwise known as the Verizon Droid in the US, has been released in Hong Kong a couple of days ago.  It retails for HK$4,680, approximately RM 2,073, which is cheap for an Android smartphone, if you ask me.  However, we can bet that it won’t sell as cheaply when it does arrive on our shores, which is rumoured to be 1st January 2010, if this article is to be believed.  I have also called up the distributor for Motorola phones in Malaysia, and a salesperson does indeed confirm that the Milestone is making its way to Malaysia; however, the arrival date as well as price are still unknown.

One of Hong Kong’s cellular operators, Smartone-Vodafone is already selling the Milestone online, for the same retail price I mentioned earlier, and this is the unlocked version, I believe.  If you’ve forgotten the specifications for the Milestone, click on the thumbnail below.

@artic, Snapdragon? Yeah, that would be nice, although I can’t see much difference in performance between the 768MHz and 1GHz – the Acer Liquid was already quite fast…

Bankrupt? Use the other credit card! :D

Use another credit card? U mean apply new one? :)

@artic, ya, the Liquid! And ya, apply a new credit card to buy the Milestone!

Thats the thing…. a lot of people may hold out on the Moto for the Nexus One. But this just my 2 sen lah.

@Jack, I’m not holding my breath on seeing the Nexus One officially in Malaysia anytime soon. And if one buys from overseas, warranty is an issue. I think if the Milestone sold at RM 2,000, I’d buy one and flash Android 2.1 on to it, and then it’ll be (almost) like the Nexus One

@ahpi, I have no clue whatsoever, but according to the engadget review, they prefer the Milestone to the Nexus One, if only very slightly…

Sadly Nexus 1 has hit the snag. 3G issues worldwide. Means Motorola Driod/Milestone is still on top if HTC and GOOGLE do not fix it soon.

    Da Alpha Dog Reply:

@stan, I think there are an equal number of customers who are not facing problems. This could be due to network issues rather than the phone’s hardware. And this is one of the reasons why US carriers say their business model is best, because before selling a phone, they ensure that it can work on their network…

Think Motorola is waiting for near launching of Nexus One to price their Milestone competitively.

    Da Alpha Dog Reply:

@Jedi_M, Motorola is more likely waiting for the green light to put Android Market onto Malaysian Android devices before releasing it in Malaysia.
