SonyEricsson Satio Launch Blog

sonyericsson-logoLest I be accused of bias against SonyEricsson, here’s a post about SonyEricsson to give them some free publicity ahead of the Satio launch.  If you’ve been a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know that I haven’t said anything good about them, so out of pity respect, here’s some coverage about the Satio ahead of its global launch, and hopefully local launch in the near future.  News has it that the Satio is making an appearance in Malaysia on October 26th at a price of RM 2,699.  Here’s the Satio’s specifications, in case you care have forgotten.

So, the Satio launch blog talks about a lot of things – tracking the phone’s launch globally, conversations with key people involved in the design and launch of the Satio and the like.  If you’re a SE fanatic/fanboi, read all about it here.  It also has some pictures and videos shot using the phone.

Here’s a description from the “About” page (emphasis mine):

This blog is dedicated to information about the Sony Ericsson Satio. We love engagement with the blog, but please be polite.

LOL!  I guess the phone has generated so much interest, some so bad until there have been rude comments left on it, until the administrators of the blog has had to put that in?

Polite? Like how? What if got something bad to say? “With the greatest respect, I humbly feel that the Satio is going to be an overpriced piece of animal waste product with an “opposite of beautiful” big mound at the back that causes the phone to look plus sized…” Is this polite kah?

Anyway, to Satio fans and SE fans in general, I was only kidding nia. Dun flame me k? I dun think the Satio is as bad as a piece of sh*t, but I was only trying to illustrate in jest on how to criticise “politely”!!!

@Jack, haha! Good one, good one! The phone does make the Hunchback of Notre Dame look rather appealing! How’s that for “polite”? :P

Flame? We don’t flame here, we just diss. I’ve got a huge fire extinguisher aka “Delete Comment” button for flamers.

Woah… check out the slow screen redraws – it’s almost as bad as Windows Mobile. Satio looks like it’s dead in the water even before launch which is terribly sad considering their phone designs aren’t all that bad.

I don’t know if it’s a Sony thing or what, but they tend to focus on stuff that consumers care really little about. Right now, the hot tickets are user experience, social networks integration and rich web apps – and yet, with Satio they’re still beating the dead megapixel horse from 2004. God forbid they release a Walkman-equivalent. Get a clue SE – megapixels and mp3 players integrated into phones are no longer differentiating factors in 2009/2010.

SE seriously needs to get out of this funk they’re in. First, cut whatever sentimental ties they have with Symbian. It’s a horribly outdated OS that would take too much resources to re-engineer. Second, quit focusing on multiple OSes. Choose one smartphone platform, and stick with it. And if they need to follow by example, maybe they could look to, I don’t know… Motorola?

@awesomo, maybe SE thinks that social network integration is overhyped and not many people need it, and people would rather buy a phone with a great camera instead? :P

Motorola’s bacon is not yet saved by the Cliq/Dext or Sholes. I’m not sure they would be a good example to follow, at least for now

more than half the points are camera/picture related. can’t be denied that it is an impressive cameraphone.

this is where everything which matters/important points goes wrong with the phone.

    result : hate > love.

@Ian Ng, like I said, maybe if the phone came equipped with any other OS apart from Symbian touch, it would have a chance?

And that hideous hump at the back! Don’t even get me started on that one!

According to symbianguru,, the Satio only comes with a 950mah battery! Shocking! What in the woorld is SE thinking? Siao!

If the rumours about SE coming out with an Android phone – the “X3″- is true, they better do a good job and release it soon, otherwise the Satio is not gonna save their sinking ship.

It will be a pity if “HMS Sony Ericsson” goes down at last in the Pacific Ocean…. I have a bit of sentimental feelings for SE because they came out with the P800 and I loved it then! It was the first real alternative to PPC phones with touchscreens and it was rather good for its time.
