“Soft And Loving Design” Sony VAIO W Netbook

sony-vaio-logoThis is a clanger too good to miss!  Well, it’s a clanger to me anyway, don’t know about you.  Sony Malaysia has resorted to using warm and fuzzy words in an attempt to sell their over-priced netbook, the Sony VAIO W.  It’s overpriced because I don’t see anything special in the W to warrant a RM 600 or more premium compared to other netbooks on the market today.  Or is the Sony branding on a device worth RM 600?  I certainly wouldn’t pay more than a RM 50 premium for a Sony device, and only if it’s made in Japan.

Check out the screenshot below – “Soft and loving design; It’s approachable by everyone to grab and to be always by your side“.  Was this written by an intern or what?  Is Sony selling cuddly soft toys or live animals now?  A puppy’s approachable, yes, and very grab-able.  But a netbook?  Nah, I don’t think so.  Even a gadget mad person like me wouldn’t call a netbook “soft” and “loving”.  I’d call some other personal entertainment device “loving”, but not a netbook.

Seriously, what is it with the appalling quality of copy-writing in Malaysia?  Are we so short of talented people who can write engaging advertisements in good English?

what the infant copywriter meant maybe is that Sony Vaio has not been fondled softly enough as the grabber was thinking of someone else , maybe that enticing flashy Korean lass ?

@toni, the writer must have been in some funny mood when he/she wrote that line…
