[UPDATE] Updated with pricing information.
Stealthily, as usual – no surprises there! No official word, just a status change on the local Samsung Mobile Malaysia website that moves it from the “upcoming section to the “latest” section. What’s so special about this phone, I hear you ask? Well, if I’m not mistaken, it’s one of the very first phones, if not the first, to come with a 12 megapixel camera on a phone. Amazing feat indeed. And it comes packed with the usual goodies that we’ve come to expect from Samsung phones lately – a gorgeous 3.1 inch AMOLED 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen, and equipped with Samsung’s own proprietary operating system, TouchWiz, the same that powers the Samsung Jet which I reviewed earlier on this blog.
To cap it all off, it’s got a Xenon flash and LED flash to boot! It supports video recording, though the specifications sadly does not mention the resolution and bitrate, but if it’s the same as the Jet, it’s bound to be of a very acceptable quality. Click here for the full specifications. The Pixon 12 is also known as the M8910, not to be confused with the i8910 HD, aka the Omnia HD!
[UPDATE] And I’ve just been informed that the recommended retail pricing (RRP) of the Pixon 12 is RM 2,699. Yikes! I guess that 12 megapixel camera lens is very expensive!
At this price, I’m not sure how many units of the Pixon 12 Samsung Malaysia expects to push out…
heard the price will be rm3k++

@Hawke, I’m trying to get confirmation of the price. Hopefully I’ll be able to know tomorrow.

Already discuss about the phone, it’s using it’s own OS, no one wanna buy phone expensive as this. Even if its RM2k, it’s just too much. RM2k below is considerable.

Samsung Mobile does get pretty confusing for non techies like us ( and we guess for many would be consumers too ) with its plethoria of sound alike names followed by the almost look alike technical codes ! They are so good with their groundbreaking new products but so terrible with their product names ! Now we are so confused with Omnia 1 , || , Pro and M & i and even the os system used . What with some called smart phones some unsmart but smarter than smart , etc ! Then led flash then xenon and then double flash !
Your job must be pretty hazardous but interesting. Finally we are so confused …should we buy Omnia 1 , || , pro or i or M or pixon or w888 , or innov8 , or the one that ends with a 2 rather than the 1 ?

@backStreetGluttons, yep, that’s why instead of using model numbers, it’s probably better to stick with names. And use names which don’t sound similar. And use them uniformly across the world!

If it’s a smartphone with WinMo/Android and price RM2,699, then can consider about the phone

RM2699 manyak manyak mahal loorrr…. Samsung Malaysia, you reading this?
Waaahh, if like this, it just struck me as to how much the Satio may cost, it being the next phone with a 12MP cam PLUS the fact that its a Winmo phone… whew….

@Jack, psstt – started the drinking early today?
The Satio runs Symbian s60v5! But you’re right on the pricing of the Satio though – it’d probably come in above RM 3,000…

Aiyoyo! Yes, yes, you are right of course! The Satio does run s60v5! I knew I shouldn’t have had that lunch time whiskey…. hick…. My point was that if a feature phone with a 12MP cam can cost so much, what more a smartphone with a 12MP cam?!
