[UPDATE] Updated with official Celcom XPax pricing plans.
As we get nearer to the Celcom Blackberry Curve 8520′s launch on its XPax prepaid network, more details are beginning to emerge. As I posted earlier on this site, there is going to be a party, called the XBerry party for those who pre-registered for the Curve 8520. Remember – apparently, to attend, you have to pre-register, then receive an electronic invitation card from Celcom in your email inbox, confirm your attendance, and finally product a printed copy of the invitation card at the party. They will supposedly match your IC number to the one you registered with; I’m not sure what’s up with all this security. In all likelihood, on the night itself, all chaos will break loose and anyone who turns up will probably get in, otherwise Celcom better be prepared to have the Selangor FRU chief’s handphone number handy when riots break out!
So, as a series of teasers leading up to the launch, here’s another one I received today from Celcom, and confirms some of Mobile World magazine has written about on their website regarding the XPax packages for the Blackberry Internet Services.
So, all those freebies you see listed above is only available at the launch. Pity. I was so close to buying a Celcom Blackberry Curve 8520, but without the freebies the deal doesn’t look so attractive now. Remember – only the first 500 people who pre-registered and turn up at the party get to enjoy these freebies.
Mobile World has also out-ed the package offerings from Celcom for the prepaid Blackberry service:

There are also some details on the postpaid packages on the webpage, so go check it out. No details are available on what the “Social Plan” includes, but I’m guessing it will be for instant messaging as well as connections to your favourite social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Flickr. The funny thing is that until today, I’ve not seen mentions of Twitter as a social network application, not even on Maxis’ Hotlink site for their prepaid Blackberry Curve 8520 offer. What gives? Also, note that the Celcom offer has no mention of an email “light package” – you either go for the cheap Social package, or be prepared to be slaughtered for the other packages. And if you get a Curve 8520, please, don’t go for the Unlimited 3G package, since the 8520 is only a 2G phone!
Finally, I was informed that the prepaid Blackberry Curve 8520 will go on sale at BlueCube outlets beginning Sunday, 10th October 2009. The price is RM 988, and apparently with no commitments. You need an XPax prepaid SIM – if you already have one, there’s no need to purchase one, otherwise, buy one at around RM 9 for the “starter pack”. In addition, you need to buy a RM 50 airtime reload, whether you already have an XPax prepaid SIM or not. That is the condition for buying the Curve 8520 at RM 988. Let’s see if this pans out tomorrow eh? ;-)
[UPDATE] And I discovered that Celcom has finally published their plans on this page. It’s certainly cheaper than Maxis’ Hotlink plans, I must say, so my advice is to try Celcom’s service first, then if you’re unhappy, hop on over to Maxis.
And they did it in such a hurry that the T&C and Fair Usage Policy links lead nowhere! Tsk tsk tsk, Celcom!
maxis already got iphone and blackberry, celcom got vodafone, htc (android) and blackberry, digi? not even a 3G! @*#()!*@)#*!

@artic, DiGi is Malaysian celco poor man, can’t get anything. 3G spectrum also got it last. But people like underdog, so always support DiGi!

@Jack, I guess we need some “tipping” point – something that tips us over the edge. This could be any event – bad customer service, too many dropped calls, etc. I guess you are a patient and forgiving person!
