As promised, Celcom has started sending out details of its Xberry party this Saturday evening to celebrate the launching of its new Blackberry Curve 8520 smartphone on its prepaid XPax network. As I mentioned in this post, it appears on the surface that the Celcom offer is better than the Maxis one, with more freebies and (slightly) cheaper pricing. Even if there was some sort of contract attached to this thing where you are required to pay the full retail price of RM 1,188 upfront and have the rebate of maybe RM 300 credited every month into your XPax prepaid account, I still think it’s a better deal than Maxis.
Check out the electronic invitation card below. Since I am already old and cannot attend any more parties, I’ll pass on this one. The sad thing is, I think the special launching offer is only valid if you attend, so Celcom has just lost a potential customer in me. If you’re interested to go, sign up at the XPax website – it’s still not too late, I think!

If celcom plan to charge Rm2.50 for unlimited usage per day, then for 30 days should be RM75! That is one quarter cheaper than Maxis!
I suspect that monthly subscription should be cheaper than RM75.

@artic, I’m just wondering if they’ll have a gazillion plans to choose from, like Maxis? Forcing people to take a monthly plan at RM 60-70 for everything is a bit much, I think. My phone bill monthly is only around RM 15! And I’m on postpaid!

@andy, it will work without the data compression because the data will not go through RIM’s servers – one of the biggest advantages of the Blackberries is their high data compression with encryption, and of course, the push email. The push email service supports up to 10 email accounts, I think.

@andy,
(1) pre-register on website (link in this post), and Celcom will send you an electronic invitation card in email.
(2) sounds like yes, there are 500 units for pre-registered customers with the freebies and special offers that you see on the XPax website.
(3) see 2.
(4) buy XPax prepaid pack if you don’t have one. If you have one, pay RM50 top up airtime.
(5) RM 888 I think. As far as I know, no commitment.
