Hah! Got you excited?! No, not in Malaysia…yet. Sorry for bursting your bubble. It was launched in India today, in Mumbai (aka Bombay), specifically. And the price is rather reasonable – Rs. (Indian rupees) 33,990, approximately RM 2,496, for the 16Gb model, a price that the site that I got the information from claims is the same as the price for the Nokia N97 and the Apple iPhone3GS. Smart pricing move, I say. Also released today was the Omnia Pro B7320, which I highlighted here in this post. The B7320 is almost similar in form factor to the Nokia E71 and the Blackberry Curve, except that the B7320 runs Windows Mobile Standard edition (ie. the non-touch edition). The B7320 will sell for Rs. 16,500, approximately RM 1,211. Another good price, if you ask me!
And check out the blurry picture of the i8910 HD’s specifications below, it states that the processor is a 1GHz one, whereas most, if not all, known specifications out there put the processor speed at 600MHz. I hope that’s not an error – it would be great if the processor somehow mysteriously got upgraded to 1GHz!

hmmm… i just get the printing yesterday at Pringin Mall, Penang. It shown 1Ghz processor as well. if samsung not print wrong, then i think it will be the fastest processor ever have in S60. Pray~ lol

Actually if you read the specs of the Cortex A8, then you’ll realize that they are correct in their specs. The A8 is scalable from 600mhz to 1ghz, so no way to fault them.
http://www.arm.com/products/CPUs/ARM_Cortex-A8.html
Most probably they realized that continuing to state that it could only run at 600mhz would be detrimental to sales. Whether it actually runs at 1ghz at any point is moot…it’s kinda similar to the megapixels myth race.

@Ken, actually if the processor has been limited to 600MHz, it should say so in an honest manner. Otherwise it’s misleading. Like the Atom processor – one can tweak it to run at up to 1.9GHz, but no one sells it that way! Same as those supercars on sale in Europe – they’re capable of going oh, maybe 300 km/h but is limited to run up to maybe 200km/h only as a safety measure. If Samsung continues to advertise this way, I’d be most disappointed, as it is a case of misleading customers. The 600MHz is already fast enough, faster than some of its competitors, so there’s really no need for this!

Depends on if the OS really has the ability to scale the CPU to demand.
The simple fact is that the CPU is 1Ghz capable. That means their advertising is true already. Whether or not apps really do take that extra power is the point of contention here.
You gotta realize that this isn’t exactly the same as overclocking (i.e. your example)….the A8 is MADE to scale officially, it’s just a matter of whether the OS does that or not.

@ken, I see your point. But I wonder why the sudden change? It has always been marketed as a 600MHz device, so why are we suddenly being told that it is now 1GHz? Does this mean that the underlying OS now supports 1GHz in the new firmware? If so, then all is well. If this is just a marketing ploy, then I’m afraid to say that I am rather disappointed that Samsung has decided to stoop this low to sell a handset. Such a move is unnecessary when the existing specifications sell the device on their own! So, until it is confirmed that the OS is designed to take full advantage of the speed, then I will stay disappointed!

if is true i rather Samsung jus say so is 600Mhz which i will still be satisfied. better then i now in quiet confusing n like in heaven drop bac to land. = =! disappointed… cos i really thought Samsung use the new 1Ghz self manufacture (which declare just last month) in the 1st place.

There’s another POV that says they got the 1ghz by combining the 600mhz with the 430MHz C64x+ to get 1ghz.
Possible, but still defeats the purpose heheh….
Anyway, what’s all the big hoohah over the speed? Isn’t it just fine if the device performs speedily enough? The Toshiba TGS01 has a 1ghz Snapdragon but still run like molasses due to Winmo 6.1. Isn’t the speedy performance of the i8910 good enough without harping on the processor speed? After all, it is still the fastest S60 device on the market so far.
