The start of another week sees us no closer to owning one of the most anticipated Symbian smartphones of the year from Samsung – the i8910 HD, aka Omnia HD, as it is known in other parts of the world. So, this post is firstly, to update readers on the actual availability of the i8910 HD in Singapore as of last weekend (approximately a week late, since it was due to be launched on 1st August). I’m not sure how the response is in Singapore – whether the contract free versions are sold out already (there are rumours it has), or whether Singaporeans prefer to buy phones on contract from their carriers in return for a subsidy on the phone.
Secondly, while Singapore has released the i8910 HD, the firmware on the phone is not the latest, allegedly not the one with the new audio codec, ie. not the “G2″ firmware as it is commonly known in the communities dedicated to the i8910 HD. However, there is a leaked version of the Malaysian firmware, the “G2″ as it were, which incorporates this audio codec fix. This is all the more shocking since the i8910 HD has not been released in Malaysia yet. Hence the title of this post, if you were wondering.
Do a Google search for the Malaysian firmware if you don’t believe me! For the geeks amongst us, the technical details of the “G2″ Malaysian firmware are:
Phone : I8910DXIG2 / CSC : I8910XMEIG2 / BB : I8910XXIG2
How the firmware of an unreleased phone can leak is beyond me, really! Oooh, I can’t wait for this dobulous phone to be released!!!
As of 10th august, the i8910 hd hasnt been launched officially in singapore. The telcos have not introduce the phone, although some peeps may have bought the local sets of phone at some mobile shops and official samsung shops.

@Anonymous, thanks for the information. I guess since the phone is already available in the shops, it’s “officially” available. And either demand is great for this phone, or Samsung Singapore simply brought in too little stock for the initial batch. Do keep us updated though!

@Anonymous, well, someone mentioned that the i8910 was available last weekend in Singapore and it’s now sold out. Apparently new stocks will be coming in this weekend. But who knows?

I don’t know where these sellers are getting their stocks from, and I don’t want to know either. Even in Singapore the phone was just made available. Maybe FMG committed to take some stocks some time ago, and they’re now selling it off because they can’t wait for the official launching, who knows? But I’d rather wait for the official announcement on pricing and other things, who knows, it may still change at the last minute?

@Anonymous, as far as I know, there is no international warranty for handphones.
