Maxis Launches Prepaid Broadband (Quietly…sssshhhh) [UPDATED]

[UPDATE] Updated with more screenshots and links.
maxis-logoMaxis introduced a prepaid wireless broadband offering recently.  At least, I think it was recently, since I received no notification about it from Maxis, and was only alerted by a reader, Andy.  The rates, as usual, are more expensive than the only other prepaid wireless broadband offering from Celcom.  There are more choices from Maxis though, for the prepaid broadband service:

  1. daily at RM 8, capped at 500Mb usage.
  2. weekly at RM 25, capped at 2Gb usage.

Here’s the link to the daily and weekly prepaid packages, see below for a screenshot:

The equivalent packages from Celcom cost RM 6 for the daily package, and RM 20 for the weekly package.  However, the RM 6 daily package from Celcom only offers 3G speeds, while Maxis’ offering is HSDPA if your device supports it.

Other options for Maxis’ prepaid wireless broadband service include:

@andy, ooo, sorry to hear that. Sounds like you’re spending a lot of money on wireless broadband!

The problem is only with China sites? Other countries are OK?

They just removed the daily & weekly subscription…no more in my #100* hotlink menu (as of today)…and they’re selling 500MB for RM68 per month! What planet do these people live on? That’s not just expensive, it’s plain ridiculous!

    [Reply]

    Da Alpha Dog Reply:

@Hafizi, really? Oooo…that’s not good for the consumer! Is it still on their website? I think they live on a planet called Maxis  :P

    Hafizi Reply:

Yeah, it’s no more in the menu. At first, before it disappeared, I tried to subscribe but got no response. Called up tech support, they said got ‘slight delay’. The day after, not only I did not get any response, the daily/weekly option was simply not there any more. Called them up again they said they were facing a problem with their system. Can’t be sure if I can trust that one…

@Hafizi, it’s still in their website here -> http://maxis.com.my/maxis3g It could be true that they are in the process of updating their systems. Give them time, maybe it’ll appear soon enough. Is there another way to subscribe, maybe via SMS, rather than using the USSD menu? ;-)

    Hafizi Reply:

Hi, it’s back in there now. Only USSD I’m afraid. Maxis Weekly @ RM25 is actually pretty good value, because in a month it will be RM100 for 8GB bandwidth. Still I find it outrageous that they are still selling 500MB for RM68….

    Da Alpha Dog Reply:

@Hafizi, good to know. About that ridiculous RM68 for 500Mb, well, as they say, an idiot is born every second

(sigh), why maxis do like this? Monthly pass with 3GB usage is about RM98!!! This is way TOO EXPENSIVE!. Yesterday i’d try Maxis daily prepaid broadband but it doesn’t work. I got an error when i tried to connect. When i tried celcom daily prepaid broadband, it’s fine. Can someone tell me more details about the error i got??

    [Reply]

    Da Alpha Dog Reply:

@Ky-reyl, simple – if it’s too expensive for you, don’t use it! No one is forcing us to buy or use anything we don’t want to buy/use. But yes, I agree with you – it’s way too expensive. What error messages are you getting? Have you tried calling the Maxis helpline?

Da dolphin dog, i think it’s my phone problem. When i use Maxis in my N70, i got an error but works fine in E51 (my brother’s phone). It also same as i try Celcom in both phone. I already activate my 3G so i guess the problem is come from N70 itself. Yesterday, i resetting my phone but still got the same error. So, i planned to buy new phone if the problem still not be solve. If you know how to solve it, please tell me what i should do now….Thanks
