I sometimes wonder if online retailers are clairvoyant? Even before Palm announces the availability of a GSM version of the Palm Pre (though they have a press conference scheduled early next week in the UK to this effect), some online retailers are already taking pre-orders for the Pre. Case in point – Handtec of the UK. They list the Pre as being in “! due in soon – taking pre-orders“ – check out the screenshot below.
The price? A princely ₤399 (RM 2,298) including VAT (value added tax), or if you’re a visitor, perhaps you can claim the VAT of ₤ 52 back when you exit the UK? If this is indeed true, then very soon we will see “AP” sets making their appearance in Malaysia, probably selling for something in excess of RM 3,000! Ah, the spirit of capitalism!
Funnily though, if you check the webpage above, the specifications for the Pre are still the North American version with EVDO-A being listed as the high speed connectivity option!
