The Acer Aspire Revo, Acer’s only Intel Atom based ION equipped nettop which it touts as being capable of playing HD (high definition) videos unlike netbooks running the Atom/Intel GMA graphics combination, has suffered another price drop today. It launched barely two months ago at RM 1,499. It then had a price drop to RM 1,399, with a free HDMI (to connect the nettop to your LCD/plasma large screen monitor) cable worth RM 100 thrown in, as I reported in this post. And today, barely three weeks later, it’s been made even cheaper – at RM 1,299 with the exact same specifications and free HDMI cable as the previous RM 1,399 offer.
The strange thing is, the higher spec’ed model is still priced the same, at RM 2,099. Very odd indeed.
So I guess this model is not selling too well in Malaysia for whatever reason – perhaps ION’s capabilities have been overstated, and consumers are turned off by a marginally improved performance over the Intel integrated graphics solution commonly found in netbooks? Or is Acer trying to meet quarterly sales numbers? Or is the Revo being cleared to make way for a newer model (I haven’t heard of one, though)? Or all of the above? Only Acer Malaysia knows. Personally, I am interested, but not at this price. I’ll wait for the price to go down to RM 1,099 with the free HDMI cable before making a commitment!
The ad is in today’s Star newspaper, page N59, in case you’re interested.
dad..i also wait to about RM1k ..since this unit come with window home premium , later can be win 7 ( i believe can be upgrade )
the performance may be a better normal atom without grapical..

@andy, yep, RM 1,000 sounds about the right price, eh?
As for the free upgrade to Win7, I am not sure, we have to check with Acer directly whether this is the case or not. Not every product that comes with Vista Home Premium qualifies for the free upgrade. And the graphics performance will definitely be better than netbooks with the lame Intel integrated graphics.

Hhhmmm, at this rate, wil they start giving it away for free? Haha! But yeah, RM1000 will be just nice.
As for the upgrade to Win7, I dun think Acer paid that little extra fee to MS for the upgrade (which I am supposing how the arrangement works) for such a relatively cheap machine. But if there is a free upgrade, that would of course be great and adds a little icing on top!

@Jack, if the upgrade to Win7 is free, then I think it’s a good deal!
