The Acer Aspire Revo, Acer’s first nVidia ION equipped nettop is now on sale in Malaysia. It was actually on sale beginning last week, and I wrote an initial post about it without reporting on its exact specifications. Now, Acer Malaysia advertised it for sale in today’s Star newspaper, page N31, a snapshot of which is shown below. The cheaper model sells for RM 1,399, while a model with slightly better specifications with LCD monitor sells for RM 2,199.
There are apparently two models on sale, identical in specifications, except that the more expensive model comes bundled with a 23″ full HD LCD monitor, 4Gb of RAM, 320Gb of hard disk (double that of the cheaper model) and a wall mounting kit for mounting the Aspire Revo on to a wall. If the more expensive model comes with 4Gb of RAM, surely it will run the 64bit edition of Windows Vista Home Premium, as the 32bit version is unable to utilise all of the precious 4Gb of RAM.
When I spoke to a salesperson in one of the outlets selling the Aspire Revo, he informed me that the Revo plays back high definition content up to 720pixel fine, in full screen mode. Playing a 1080pixel high definition video will result in a painful viewing experience, he added. Frankly, seeing that this unit is equipped with the more powerful ION graphics platform, I’m very disappointed – perhaps ION and Vista is not a good combination. Actually Vista with any combination on a weak single core processor such as the Atom is never a good idea! If you’re interested to buy an Aspire Revo for consuming high definition content, do bring along your videos on a thumbdrive to test the Revo’s performance before purchase – be a smart consumer and don’t regret your purchase when you get home without testing it!
