I just received information on the pricing and specifications of Gateway’s products in Malaysia. This list does not include the detailed specifications for the Gateway LT2005n netbook, but since it’s a netbook, and having read this blog numerous times, I am quite certain that you can recite its specifications off the top of your head in 3 seconds flat, right?
I noticed that some of the models here are not advertised yet, at least not in the Gateway advertisements which have appeared in the Star; I am unsure of advertisements in other print media. If anyone knows, just drop a comment to set me right!

I was told by the Gateway call centre customer service representative that you can now buy Gateway products at outlets which also sell lots of Acer products.
Do drop a comment (if you have the time) if you buy one of these to share your experience with them, ‘k?

@tcmean, what do you mean “more info”? The information provided here is incomplete?
Or do you mean you want to go see some Gateways in real life? If so, you can always drop by the Acer concept store on the first floor of LowYat Plaza. Any other shop which sells a lot of Acer notebooks/netbooks should have Gateways as well. I was told that Gateway will not have a physical store, for now.

I mean more photos or a website to check. I’ve tried to search through the web but can’t seem to find neither the official website nor call center number.

@tcmean, I see. I just checked – it seems that the Gateway Malaysian microsite is not up yet. Gateway’s call centre number is 1-800-88-1202. Maybe you can give them a call and ask them where you can view the units you’re interested in.

hmm.. if that’s the case, what about the support centre? what would happen if there was some problems with the gateway laptop? does that mean we send it back to acer?

@hptan, I believe the Highpoint Service Network, which services Acer machines, should also be servicing the Gateway machines. If they’re serious about making some business in Malaysia, the after sales servicing must be good. And since Gateway is owned by Acer, it only makes sense from a cost perspective to have the same company servicing the Acer machines to service the Gateway machines too.
As usual in Malaysia, when you want to claim warranty, you either bring it back to the retail outlet where you bought the unit from, or send it directly to their service centre yourself. The Acer service centre is located somewhere in Subang, if I’m not mistaken, not that easy to find (I went there once, many years ago), so it may be easier to send it back to the shop!

@yoyo, yes, Acer owns Gateway. Gateway, before it was bought out by Acer, used to operate in Malaysia many years ago. I remember they used to have a retail shop in the KLCC. Then, they pulled out of Malaysia for some years, and now they’re back.

@tricy, Gateway is owned by Acer, not Asus. And shops should sell at the recommended retail price (RRP), as published in the newspaper. If not, avoid that shop and go somewhere else which is selling at the RRP or below.

Would the price of ID5802y reduced to around RM3000 in the coming one month??

Which one is better in their performance between gateway NV 4801y and Acer Timeline 4810? I really need your recomendation.

@capik, you mean the NV4803 on sale in Malaysia vs the Timeline 4810T right? Well, from a pure performance standpoint, one cannot compare a 1.4GHz processor against a 2.1GHz processor, so the Gateway would be a better choice.

Yes, thank you for your suggestion. So I am going to hunt Gateway for sure.

@capik, bear in mind that the Gateway and Acer models you mentioned are different animals. The Acer is supposed to be a sleek form factor machine, while the Gateway is a full featured notebook.

Yes, I noticed it. Actually I am feel that the appearance of Acer is quite nice. Meanwhile, the price between this two stuff is almost same. So, I got confused to chose which one is suitable for me.I believe Gateway wouldnt be disappointed to me.(“,)

@al alex, I have no idea. They have not updated their product line in a while. I think this is a small test – if it’s successful, they may sell more. I suspect the demand hasn’t been too encouraging.
