Thanks to “Toon899″ in the shoutbox, we now know that the latest Symbian version of Garmin Mobile XT (GMXT), version 5.00.30, released recently, now supports the Nokia 5800 running Symbian s60v5 natively, without the need for the VirtualKey software. Damn, looks like the traffic on this site will go down soon, haha…
Download it here, or click here for another mirror. You can, of course, download from the Garmin website, but I have kindly repacked it so that it only contains the necessary files for installation on the 5800. What you need to do (really simple, no need for a detailed tutorial!):
- extract all files and folders from the package onto the root of your memory card. That is, if your memory card is “E” drive, just drag and drop all folders and files in this package on to the E drive, not into any folder, but the “root” directory.
- there is no need to uninstall the current version of GMXT.
- install the latest version of GMXT by tapping on the “GarminMobileXT.sis” file in File Explorer on your phone.
So, all touch functions now work. I haven’t tested extensively, but I think landscape display of the malsingmaps map work as well. Drop a comment if you find any bugs! Sorry, I can’t snap a screenshot in landscape mode, stupid ScreenSnap software!

@Maplesyrup, you did those things I said? Tried installing the latest version – 5.00.50? If so, the only thing left to do would be to hard reset your phone, but this would be drastic as you would lose everything and need to restore, which is tremendously painful.

@anakas, you either have to reset your phone (Google for instructions), or hack your phone, or get your own certificate and sign the installer using this certificate.

@Niel, to see the option you mentioned, you need to “unlock” the software. You either pay for it, or you use Uncle Google

Hi Dad,
I just bought my nokia 5800 and install the ver 5.00.30. I’m still new with Garmin. When reach the main page it appear 4 option which are Purchase, Bank/ATM, Enter Postal Code & Connect to GPS. So when I touch connect to GPS and it was searching for GPS device. After > 30mins, still no reaction. So is my GPS malfunction or how long it take to connect to GPS device or am I installing the programme incorrectly?
Did i miss out any step? Do I need to enter the postal code (product code) in order to use? Where can I get the product code for free?
Sorry for asking so many questions. Hope you can guide me thru, tks.

@ST, you need to purchase a license code to use GMXT with internal non-Garmin GPS receivers. Either buy one, or El Goog is your friend!
