Aiptek PocketCinema V10

aiptek-logoIntriguing product name, isn’t it?  It’s one of those new pico projectors, which are all the rage now in the US.  Do a search on Google for “pico projector” and you know what I mean.  Basically, pico projectors are tiny, handheld, palm sized projectors that perform like “real” or “normal” projectors.  With mobility on the rise nowadays, it seems that whenever there is an opportunity to micro-size something, it will be micro-sized!

The Aiptek was recently launched in Malaysia, and is slightly different from the other pico projectors out there on the (world) market today.  This one has a media player built in, as well as a memory card slot where you can plug in a Secure Digital (SD) card (it also supports MMC and the Sony Memory Stick) which contains your favourite pr0n movies for watching “on-the-go”.  Here comes the usual marketing blurb:

The portion which I’ve highlighted above should be of concern to anyone considering a pico projector – the lamp on these things are not bright.  This means that you need to use this in a really dark room, and I mean really dark.  But then again, isn’t this the best environment to enjoy your best pr0n movie collection?  A typical “real” projector will offer at least 2,000 lumens, so I guess you can see the difference here eh?  And because of its tiny size, these things can’t project very far.  But they are a very interesting gadget nevertheless.

The damage to your wallet?  RM 1,799.  For a cheaper RM100, you can get a “real” Viewsonic branded projector, with a free 6 feet by 6 feet wall screen thrown in to boot!  Sigh – such is the price of bleeding edge tech – it really bleeds your wallet dry!
