Over the past few days, the mobile computing blogosphere has been reporting that Sony’s New Zealand site has either purposely or inadvertently leaked news of an impending Sony netbook release or announcement come January 2009. Unfortunately, when I checked the said webpage today, Sony New Zealand has taken the page down, along with all links that originate from that page. So, either it is a well coordinated marketing game, or it was a lie, or it was a teaser, or well…I give up trying to speculate.
Luckily for us, we can see from Google’s cache that the webpage is not fake. Click here for a Google search for the webpage. Engadget reported earlier that the FCC leaked specifications and test results of a new tiny Sony device, rumoured by many to be Sony’s entry into the hottest hardware segment right now – the netbook.
My, my, that case certainly looks like a smudge and fingerprint magnet, let’s hope Sony changes the material before specifications are finalised for production!
The mystery deepens with the pulling of the page off Sony New Zealand’s website. And what is it with 9th January 2009 anyway? The Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic is also due to be released on this date in Malaysia…hhhmmm…I smell a conspiracy!
